luxating elevators are used only for severing the periodontal fiber and expanding the alveolus in the mesial and distal directions, thereby reducing the amount of force needed to withdrawal the root structure from the socket. they are NOT for directly elevating the root structure.
to achive the optimal results, luxating elevators should be applied primarly on the mesial and distal aspects of the root, avoiding the thin buccal plate.
